Assignment 2: SCAFFOLDING & DIFFERENTIATION
SCAFFOLDING:
Scaffolding means to support students with additional information based on what they already know in order to understand something better. It refers to all the extra information that students are given by the teacher in order to help them to acquire the information and assimilate it. So the teacher can do modifications when teaching in order to allow students to be successful.
One example in which "scaffolding" is used would be when the teacher asks the students what they already know about some topic. Then, it is easier to study it as the students can assimilate this topic as they already have information about it, as they have previous knowledge. So this is easier for the students to understand something. For example, if the teacher gives them some discussion about one topic that they already know or are familiar with, they can do better the activities related to that topic, as they are given the chance to practice their speaking skills at the same time.
DIFFERENTIATION:
Differentiation refers to apply learning strategies taking into account the differences or qualities that students have, what characterises them. This is a way to respond more specifically to student's needs according to what they do best or their learning styles.
One example in which "differentiation" is used would be when the teacher is asking one question to a student but for some reason he/she can't answer it, so the teacher rephrases the question in order to adapt it to the student.
